SUMMER PLANS!
Summer is in full swing- free concerts every night of the week. A new public golf course less than 3 miles away and water activities and more are now here. Just today we enjoyed an ice-cream at the Silo's new caboose and watched water skiers, jet skis towing rafts, and fishermen pulling in their catch.
We have already had our first fishing tournament and the Smelt Festival to kick off the season and the activities don't stop until after the New Year makes it's appearance. You can check the schedules of events for the season on the activites page by clicking on the link for the Chamber of Commerce.
I hope you plan to spend more than a day here. It can take a day to visit The Falls and make use of the Discovery Pass. This is the parks 125th birthday and they have a lot planned for you. But there is so much more to see here! You can stop at the Herschell's Carrousel Museum on you way to or from The Falls. Then there is the Erie Canal in Lockport. Watch the locks in action and ride on a real river boat while getting a history lesson on how these wonders were built. Niagara Power Project not only explains how we get our power from the river but has a great view of the Niagara River and hands on activities for the younger, and younger at heart, members of your group. Castellani Art Museum at Niagara University has a permanent display showing Lewiston's involvement in the Freedom Trail, Our Lady of Fatima Shrine has acres of peaceful walking trails as well as a church and visitor center. Old Fort Niagara shows how we were an essential part of the War of 1812 and the use of the fort clear up through WWII. Then we have concerts, farm museums, fishing, the Jetboat ride, and this year, a Tall Ships Tour of the gorge.
We have two new livery/taxi tour service companies for those of you who would rather look out the window at scenery and hear a running commentary about our history than read maps and watch the road. Of course you can take a wine tour limo as a group or ride in individual cars to visit the wineries. Several of them provide lunch as well as tastings and tours, another day well spent.
Whew! Are you tired yet? Then plan to spend another night and enjoy having breakfast served to you in the family atmosphere of our dining room, and you don't have to clear the table or do dishes, just take your coffee out onto the front porch and relax with the paper, watch the birds and plan your next adventure.
Relax all evening; Start the day with a full breakfast
We've found that the simpler down home breakfast items are in greater demand than the gourmet items. The most requested item is by far, Sunny's scones; multigrain, whole wheat, oat, as well as blueberry, cranberry-orange, or pecan praline. Sunny makes the scones fresh every morning, so give her your preference early. Add homemade orange-honey butter to fresh baked scones warm from the oven. Send us an email and we'll share the recipe.
Breakfast at Sunny's Roost is served in our large dining room. We've decided to create a menu to help spark your breakfast appetite. You can choose from any of the following or ask if we can make something special if these suggestions make you remember another taste you want to experience:
Here's a sample of breakfast items Sunny just loves to make:
- Orange cinnamon French toast served with orange honey butter and maple syrup
- Omelets with assorted fillings
- Buttermilk, whole wheat, buckwheat, oat pancakes
- Cranberry walnut or cranberry walnut white chocolate chip Scones
- And many more choices
